On Saturday in Fresno at the CIF State Cross Country Championships saw the culmination of an outstanding cross country season for your Mustangs. In the history of the State Meet, this was one of the coldest meets on record in recent time with temperatures hovering around 44 degrees at the start of the first race and peaking at 62 degrees by the end of the last one.
The Varsity Boys were up first and they had their hands full from the get-go with the other 22 teams that toed the line of this venerable 5K course. They ran a very tough and gamely race from gun to tape, and when it all concluded, they finished 21st overall with a score of 435 points. Sr. Max Sawyer led the team with a 92nd individual finish and a four-second PR of 16:31.0. Next up was Fr. Gabe Rosado in 107th place in a nine-second PR of 16:39.2. Next up was So. Julien Kehon in 110th place with a time of 16:39.9. Next was Jr. Vincent Li in 113th place with a time of 16:41.9. Then came So. Ryan Ma in 138th place in a time of 16:54.6. Rounding off the final two places were Sr. William Scott in 166th place in 17:19.8, and So. Sahil Morchi in 178th place with a time of 17:36.6.
Next up were the Varsity Girls who’s battle wasn’t going to be any easier than the previous three years. When the dust all settled, they walked away with a 13th place overall team finish out of 23 teams with a score of 338 points. They were led by Jr. Elena Kamas who placed 21st with a time of 18:13.9 for the 5K course. Next up was Sr. Lindsay Allen who placed 53rd in 18:53.4. Next came So. Katie Williams in 67th with a time of 19:07.4. Next up was Jr. Jillian O’Brien in 136th place in 20:12.3. Then came Jr. Rebecca Hasser in 147th place in 20:26.4. Rounding out the other team places were So. Sammie Lieberman who placed 171st in 21:02.9, and Fr. Darian Lee finishing in 174th place with a time of 21:08.5.
This season was another successful year, but our ultimate goal still remains the same, to win a State title in next five years. And the beat goes on. Next up, we’ll be taking some of your Mustang athletes to compete in the Foot Locker Western Regional Championships to be held in Southern California at Mt. Sac Jr. College this coming Saturday. Wish them well. Thanks very much for you continue support.
