Congratulations to Senior Houfu Yan for placing 14th in the 100 backstroke at the 2016 California State Swimming and Diving Championships.
Houfu once again lowered his own school record to 51.43 seconds in his specialty event and became the first Homestead swimmer to score points at the State Meet. Congratulations Houfu! Congratulations to the Homestead Boys Swim and Dive team on a Top 16 finish at the 2016 CCS Championships at Santa Clara International Swim Center on May 13th and 14th, see page 2. Also congratulations to Senior Houfu Yan for extending this successful season by qualifying for the State Championships this coming Friday and Saturday in Clovis.
Houfu qualified in the 100 backstroke while taking home 8th place overall at the CCS Finals on Saturday lowering his school record in the process. At CCS Trials on Friday Houfu, Junior Corbin Jee, Sophomore Zach Birrer, and Senior Davis Horeff also set a new school record in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:38.09. (The previous record of 1:39.94 was set in 2007). That time qualified them 11th overall for Saturday where the boys again lowered their school record to 1:38.05, won the Consolation Finals heat, and placed 9th overall. The team narrowly missed the State Meet consideration time by less than half a second! Davis and Houfu then teamed up with Senior Paul Maier and Sophomore David Jung to qualify 16th in the 200 Freestyle Relay, eventually moving up to 15th and, again, narrowly missing the State Meet in a time of 1:29.81 The boys capped off their scoring in the final event of the meet, the 400 Freestyle Relay. The team of Paul Maier, Corbin Jee, and Sophomores Raymond Lee and Brandon Hong again qualified 16th for the Consolation Finals in a time of 3:20.11. Once again the boys rose to the challenge on Saturday. Paul led off the relay with a personal best (and CCS 100 free qualifying time) of 49.79 and Brandon anchored in a sizzling 48.05. Corbin and Raymond also swam personal best splits while the team shaved just over 2 seconds from their prelim time to move up 3 places and finish 13th overall!! It was an exciting finish to a great meet for the Homestead Boys. Special congratulations to Trevor Carpenter and David Jung for posting personal best times and placing in the Top 40 in the 100 backstroke in their first trip to the CCS Championships. Things are really rolling for Mustang Swimming! Good luck to Houfu at the State Swimming and Diving Championships. Go Mustangs!! |
